Islamic and nationalist coordination for the Iraqi opposition Mashaan al-Jubouri and Wafiq al-Samarrai call on Syria to open its borders to Iraqis (AFP) Iraqi opposition figures called on Syria yesterday to open its borders and ports to Iraqis, while a spokesperson for the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq, Bayan Jaber, confirmed that the Islamic and nationalist currents in the Iraqi opposition have begun two days of meetings in the Syrian capital.

The head of the Iraqi opposition party “Al-Watan,” Mashaan al-Jubouri, stated that he and the former Iraqi intelligence chief residing in Damascus, Brigadier General Wafiq al-Samarrai, met with Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam for two and a half hours. They requested “the opening of borders with Iraq and facilitating the entry of Iraqis into Syria, as well as the use of its airports and ports to travel to the outside world.”
