Moussa succeeds in preventing a confrontation between the Syrian Foreign Minister and Khaddam’s supporters in Brussels

At a time when a number of Arab journalists were preparing to go to one of the major hotels in Brussels to follow the coordination meeting of the Arab delegation that arrived in the capital of united Europe to hold talks with officials there last Monday on the sidelines of the foreign ministers’ meetings to give details related to the activation of the Arab Peace Initiative, everyone was surprised by the decision. The meeting was transferred to the headquarters of the European Ministerial Council.
Arab diplomatic sources said that moving the meeting came in implementation of a request from Amr Moussi, Secretary-General of the Arab League, to avoid a confrontation between the official Syrian delegation participating in the meeting, headed by Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem, and elements of the Syrian opposition from the National Salvation Front, supporters of former Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam. A number of them happened to be at the hotel the same morning.
The same sources said that a number of Arab League employees noticed the presence of Abdul Halim Khaddam, the former Syrian Vice President, and a number of opposition figures who are members of the National Salvation Front, shortly before the arrival of the Syrian delegation headed by Al-Muallem, and informed Moussi of the matter.
