The Syrian opposition group “Salvation Front” accused the regime of using peace negotiations with Israel as a bridge to break its external isolation and open relations with the European Union and the United States.

The Front, led by former Vice President turned dissident Abdul Halim Khaddam, announced in a statement issued by its General Secretariat at the end of its regular meeting in Brussels on June 28 and 29, that “the regime’s wrong and confused economic policies have caused more daily suffering for the general population and imposed additional burdens on them. Meanwhile, the disaster has worsened amid drought and the failure of the agricultural season, forcing tens of thousands of farmers to migrate from their lands to the outskirts of cities without the regime itself providing any assistance to the affected areas, unlike some neighboring countries that have been hit by the disaster.”
