“President Hussein al-Husseini returned from Damascus yesterday and briefed President Harawi on the atmosphere of his talks with Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam and Chief of Staff General Hakmat al-Shihabi.

Syrian television reported last night that the meeting with Khaddam ‘discussed the situation in Lebanon and the necessary steps that can contribute to stabilizing the Lebanese situation.’

Reliable sources revealed that President Husseini also discussed the issue of sending the army to the Apple Region in Damascus. They clarified that the force designated for this is now ready, but it depends on receiving answers from those involved, especially Iran. They confirmed that the government is waiting for an Iranian response to Syria either yesterday or today regarding the withdrawal of Hezbollah from the Apple Region.

Meanwhile, Minister Walid Jumblatt has been conducting talks in Damascus with Syrian officials for the past two days, discussing current developments.”
