President Kamel Al-Asaad described those who attempted to assassinate Mr. Abdel Halim Khaddam as tools of the conspirators who plotted to destroy the Arab cause.

This was stated in a comment made by President Al-Asaad regarding the assassination attempt. He said: “The sinister hand that carried out the attempt is, without a doubt, a tool of the conspirators who planned but failed in their scheme to destroy the Arab cause, the stability in the Arab region, and the existence of Lebanon.”

He added, “These desperate attempts target individuals who have contributed to thwarting the conspiracy, foremost among them, our brother Abdel Halim Khaddam.”

President Al-Asaad also sent the following telegram: “The vile attempt on your life is proof of the conspirators’ despair in their plot against the Arab cause, and it also reaffirms your leading national role. I congratulate you on your safety, with my best regards.”
