Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam has arrived in Algeria tonight from Libya for an official visit aimed at discussing ways to support the Palestinian people and strengthen Algerian-Syrian relations. Upon his arrival in Algiers, Khaddam informed reporters that Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad has tasked him to engage in talks with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to exchange views on practical measures to enhance support for the Palestinian people and establish a united Arab position to reclaim their full rights.
Khaddam emphasized that the Palestinian issue and the situation in Iraq will be key topics at the upcoming Arab summit in Beirut, scheduled for next Wednesday. He stressed the necessity of seeking a unified stance among Arab nations due to the pressing threats facing the Arab world, particularly the severe repression endured by the Palestinian people.
The visits of the Syrian Vice President to Libya and Algeria are part of a series of intensive regional engagements preceding the Beirut Summit. These discussions aim to exchange perspectives on the latest developments in the region and the agenda items to be addressed at the upcoming summit, with the goal of ensuring its success.
During his visit to Libya, Khaddam conveyed a message from President Al-Assad to President Muammar Gaddafi regarding consultations on the summit’s agenda. It is anticipated that Khaddam will deliver a similar message to President Bouteflika during his ongoing visit to Algeria, as reported from Damascus.
