Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam went to Sanaa for a brief working visit to Yemen to hold talks on the latest developments in the region. An official source in the Syrian Foreign Ministry stated that Khaddam is carrying a message from Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad to his Yemeni counterpart Ali Abdullah Saleh regarding the current situation in the region, as well as regional, international, and Arab issues of common concern.

The source added that Khaddam’s talks with President Saleh and senior Yemeni officials will focus on several topics, including the situation in Iraq and its future, the situation in the Palestinian territories, Arab-Arab relations, and ideas for activating joint Arab action within the framework of the Arab League. Views will also be exchanged on the American project on Iraq, which is currently being discussed before the UN Security Council. The project calls for giving the United Nations an active role in the Iraqi issue and sending international forces to Iraq.
