Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam reiterated his country’s commitment to Iraq’s independence and regional sovereignty, emphasizing the unity of Iraq and the Iraqi people’s ability to overcome their challenges and regain independence and sovereignty. This statement was made during Khaddam’s reception of a delegation representing the Islamic Movement of the Turkmen of Iraq, the Iraqi Turkmen Front, and the tribal leaders of the Turkmen.

An official statement in Damascus mentioned that the Turkmen delegation, during their meeting with Khaddam, discussed the suffering of Iraqis and the threats to their unity and future. They expressed their commitment to the unity of Iraq, both territorially and among its people. The delegation also expressed appreciation for Syria’s stances on Arab issues.

The members of the Iraqi Turkmen delegation emphasized the necessity for Iraqis to adhere to their national unity and Iraqi identity, aiming for an independent and unified Iraq that encompasses all segments of Iraqi society. This, they believe, would enable Iraq to regain its role on both the regional and international stages.
