French President Jacques Chirac has met the Syrian vice president and foreign minister to discuss the Middle East peace process.
The agency says Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam and Foreign Minister Farouk Sharaa were scheduled to meet French Foreign Minister Herve de Charette later Thursday.
De Charette is scheduled to visit Israel, Syria and Lebanon from March 4 to 6. The meetings in Paris were taking place as more than two dozen French groups called for the postponement of the signing of a European Union accord with Israel.
The agency says their campaign denounced plans to build 6,500 more homes for Israelis in occupied East Jerusalem and other areas.
The report was monitored in London. The campaign also accuses Israel of violating the EU accord. It says Israel tortured Palestinian detainees and prevented economic development in self-rule Palestinian areas. It also accuses Israel of delaying the building of a port and airport in Gaza and refusing to grant free access between the West Bank and Gaza.
