Former Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam said that the world is facing a fierce war in the Middle East, with one of its main parties being the Russian-Iranian alliance. He stated that matters are escalating in Syria, and the Syrian people remain steadfast in their revolution until the overthrow of the regime and the trial of its leaders and all those involved in the crimes of murder.

Khaddam told the Saudi newspaper “Al-Yawm” that at first glance, the listener might conclude from the recent speech that Bashar al-Assad is defiant, similar to how Muammar Gaddafi was before his short-lived fall. However, after two weeks, he fell, and it became clear that his threats were nothing more than emotional reactions not based on reality.

He added, saying: “After carefully reading the speech, I concluded the extent of the great conspiracy being implemented in the region.” Former Syrian Vice President urged Arab governments and peoples to mobilize their efforts to support the Syrian people, including contacting major powers and urging them to make a decisive decision to use military force, as was done in Libya, not only to save the Syrian people but also to save security and stability in the region.

Regarding the statement that Bashar al-Assad seeks to ignite sectarian strife and establish a state in the coastal region, Khaddam said: “This is true.” He added that Bashar al-Assad said, “I will not step down, and if I am cornered, I will ignite sectarian strife and go to the coast to establish a state there.” Khaddam described this direction of Bashar as reflecting the nature of the separation between him and the Syrian people, expressing his confidence that this project will fail because the national unity among Syrians is stronger than the aspirations of corrupt and despotic adventurers.
