Abdelhalim Khaddam, the former Vice President of Syria, has announced his support for a military strike on his country to overthrow the Bashar al-Assad regime.
According to a report from the London-based newspaper “Al-Hayat,” citing a copy of a message received by the “United Press International” agency, Khaddam urged Arab and foreign countries sympathetic to the Syrian people to use military force to overthrow the regime and enable the Syrian people to achieve their aspirations and determine their destiny.
Khaddam explained, “A punitive strike that does not topple the regime will increase the suffering of the Syrian people because Iran and Russia will continue to support it by all means.” He added, “Our people are facing a great danger, confronting the Iranian-Russian alliance with the murderous regime.”
Khaddam further stated, “When peoples face serious threats, whether internal or external, they unite their ranks and energies in confronting the dangers that threaten their homeland, the unity of their people, and their land.”
