In its issue dated January 8, 1974, Al-Qabas, from Abu Dhabi, published a political news report on its last page regarding the arrival of Syria’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Abdulhalim Khaddam, in the city at the beginning of his tour among several Gulf Emirates, including Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait. During this tour, Khaddam will deliver messages from President Hafez al-Assad to the rulers of these countries, seeking support for Syria’s efforts to continue the struggle to liberate Arab territories under occupation.

“Syria’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Abdulhalim Khaddam, arrived here today at the start of his tour among several Gulf Emirates. Khaddam will be visiting Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait. Informed sources have stated that Syria’s Deputy Prime Minister will deliver messages from President Hafez al-Assad to the rulers of these countries concerning the current situation and Syria’s needs to continue the struggle for the liberation of occupied Arab territories. Khaddam will also hold discussions with regional officials regarding Syria’s stance on the Middle East’s Geneva Conference. Abdulhalim Khaddam’s tour is part of a significant diplomatic campaign initiated by Syria after the ceasefire following the end of the October War. Within the scope of this campaign, Syria’s Foreign Minister has undertaken several visits to various Arab countries, some European countries, and Southeast Asian countries.”
