Former Syrian Vice President Abdul-Halim Khaddam, who defected from the regime, described his country’s system as “terrorist and occupying,” and called on Syrians to reclaim what their fathers and grandfathers had done to liberate Syria, rebuild it, and restore its role in all Arab and international arenas.

Khaddam said in a message to the Syrians yesterday (Wednesday) on the occasion of the holidays, “I address you to congratulate you on your holidays, and my heart drips with pain and bitterness over your continued suffering, especially what the youth of Syria are experiencing from persecution and imprisonment for no reason other than dreaming of building a secure future where they weave their lives and the life of their country under a safe and stable system.”

Addressing the Syrian youth, he added, “Persist, for the day of victory is near (…) Persist, for you are shaping your future (…) It is you alone who must think about the future, work, and rise up to create a bright future not only for yourselves but for your country and your entire nation, because Syria and its future are linked to you.”

He called on them to “struggle for the homeland, for liberation, for the salvation of Syria, and to break the wall of fear,” adding that “the ruler is more afraid, and the more afraid he becomes, the more he suppresses, and the more he suppresses, the stronger your resolve must be, and your determination to confront him and achieve victory over him must increase.”

Khaddam added in his message that “the Syrians today are living in a country where sanctities are violated, justice and rights are lost.”
