Khaddam discussed with Yonsei the American threats against Iraq and the expected consequences of any military action
Iranian Minister of Information, Ali Younsi, arrived in Damascus last Friday and held meetings with President Bashar Al-Assad and Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam. Following the discussions, Younsi made a statement emphasizing that “the Iraqi opposition will not serve as a tool to fulfill American objectives.” However, he did not provide further details, as reported by the agency.
According to The Associated Press, Khaddam and Younsi discussed the American threats against Iraq and the potential consequences of any military action conducted by the United States.
The Iranian minister expressed that both Damascus and Tehran “oppose any military intervention in any Muslim country and view any American involvement in the region as detrimental to the interests of Islamic nations.”
Younsi also described the recent gathering of the Kurdish parliament with all its deputies in northern Iraq, which took place earlier this month for the first time since 1994, as a “political and media maneuver,” as reported by The Associated Press.
Furthermore, The Associated Press quoted an Iranian official in the Syrian capital who stated that Iran rejects the establishment of an independent Kurdish state in northern Iraq.
