Wadih Al-Khazen reported that Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam emphasized the importance of internal dialogue during their meeting in Damascus. They discussed the regional situation and the relationship between Lebanon and Syria.

According to Al-Khazen, Khaddam highlighted the significance of maintaining an ongoing constructive dialogue between Presidents Emile Lahoud and Rafiq Hariri. He viewed it as a crucial element for ensuring political and economic stability in the country. Khaddam emphasized the need to avoid any negative impact on the outcomes of the Paris II Conference, which are gradually unfolding, as well as the increasing international confidence in Lebanon’s ability to overcome its crises.

Khaddam stated that resorting to the Constitution and laws is the most secure approach to resolve any contentious issue. He stressed that the current regional circumstances demand the highest levels of solidarity and coordination, a principle that President Bashar Al-Assad consistently prioritizes.

Khaddam reaffirmed Syria’s complete support for President Emile Lahoud’s strategic choices and emphasized that unity among the pillars of the state will prevail over any internal disturbances. He called for confronting such challenges by fostering unity among the Lebanese people.
