King Fahd bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia received the Syrian Vice President, Mr. Abdel Halim Khaddam, who arrived in Dhahran on the eastern coast of the Kingdom at noon. The Saudi monarch has been staying there for a few weeks.

Mr. Khaddam was welcomed at Dhahran Airport by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz.

According to informed Saudi sources quoted by “Agence France-Presse,” Mr. Khaddam is carrying a message from Syrian President Hafez Al-Assad to King Fahd regarding the situation in the region, bilateral relations, and the efforts of the League of Arab States to find a solution to the Lebanese crisis.

It is worth noting that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, aiming to improve Arab-Arab relations and hold an Arab summit meeting in Riyadh, successfully facilitated reconciliation between Syria and the Kingdom of Morocco in January. The two countries had severed their diplomatic relations in 1986.
