Former Syrian Vice President Abdul-Halim Khaddam met with a team from the International Investigation Committee on the assassination of the former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. This meeting took place in the context of Khaddam’s recent statements criticizing the Syrian regime, particularly targeting the German judge Detlev Mehlis. Khaddam stated that Mehlis asked him several questions about Hariri’s assassination, and he responded with the information he had, without providing any further details about the meeting.

Meanwhile, Khaddam stated to the Lebanese newspaper “Sada Al-Balad” that he would not apologize to anyone in Lebanon for his past responsibilities when he handled Lebanon’s file for nearly three decades. He affirmed that he has nothing to apologize for and will not apologize to anyone. He expressed his willingness to evaluate that period through dialogue with Lebanese leaders to assess the extent of each one’s mistakes. He pointed out that the period was challenging and full of mistakes, being one of the most dangerous in Lebanon’s history, with a civil war and 20 security agencies operating in the country.
