The Syrian News Agency has reported that Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam returned to Damascus two days ago, concluding a brief visit to Libya. The purpose of his visit was to deliver a message from Syrian President Hafez al-Assad to Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, reaffirming Syria’s support in the face of American threats.

The United States has accused Libya of producing chemical weapons, and President Ronald Reagan recently stated that military action cannot be ruled out to prevent the global proliferation of such weapons. The American position has been met with condemnation from most Arab countries, who have expressed their solidarity with Tripoli in the event of an attack.
