Mr. Abdel Halim Khaddam, the Syrian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, arrived in Turkey today to deliver a message from President Assad. While passing through Beirut Airport, he announced that Syria is currently engaged in a fight to liberate the occupied territory and secure the rights of the Palestinian people.
When asked about his expectations regarding the upcoming visit of Dr. Henry Kissinger, the United States Secretary of State, to the region with the aim of finding an agreement to separate Syrian and Israeli forces on the Golan front, Khaddam responded, “The outcome will depend on the timing.”
The spokesman for the US State Department confirmed today that Henry Kissinger will depart from Washington next Sunday for his fifth round of Middle East negotiations since the October war.
