Khaddam to an Iraqi delegation: Damascus will develop its relations with Baghdad

Damascus – KUNA: Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam affirmed his country’s readiness to develop its relations with Iraq in various fields that serve the Iraqi people, foremost among them the restoration of Iraq’s sovereignty and the building of an independent state.

This statement came during his meeting yesterday with a visiting Iraqi delegation that included several leaders from Salah al-Din province, headed by Mishaan al-Jubouri.

An official statement mentioned that Khaddam assured the delegation of Syria’s commitment to Iraq’s national unity and its support for the Iraqi people in overcoming their ordeal.

The statement also noted that the Iraqi delegation, in this first meeting after the transfer of power, appreciated the Syrian government’s positions under the current leadership toward Iraq, as well as its concern for and support of the Iraqi people.

Supporting the Iraqi People
Damascus Radio expressed hope that the step of handing over power to the Iraqis would lead to the full restoration of sovereignty, enabling the Iraqi people to fully exercise their right to self-determination, establish the foundations of independence, and build a free, dignified, and prosperous life.
