Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam arrived in Beirut on Friday and promptly proceeded to the hospital where Hamadeh had been taken after the assault. According to an AFP correspondent, Khaddam arrived at the American Hospital in Beirut during the afternoon, accompanied by a significant number of Syrian security service members. He immediately went to the floor where Hamadeh resides, as Hamadeh had sustained minor injuries to his face and hand during the attack earlier that morning, which tragically resulted in the death of his driver. Khaddam’s arrival at the hospital coincided with the visit of United States Ambassador Jeffrey Feltman.
