Letter dated 23 October 1973 from the Deputy Minister of the Syrian Arab Republic addressed to the secretary General

On instructions from my Government, I have the honor to transmit the text of the following cable:

‘with reference to your cable dated 22 October 1973 transmitting Security Council resolution 338 (1973), adopted on 22 October at the 1747th meeting I should be grateful if you would not* and inform the security council that the Syrian Government has accepted that resolution and states that it has understood the resolution to be based on :

1 – The complete withdrawal of the Israeli forces from all the Arab territories which were occupied in June 1967 and subsequently;

  1. The safeguarding of the legitimate national rights of the Palestinians peoples in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations

The Syrian Government’s acceptance of the resolution is conditional upon the other party’s undertaking to implement the resolution.
