The National Committee to Support the Syrian Revolution strongly condemned the Arab Summit meeting, which adopted repetitive decisions on the Arab situation, devoid of substance and embellished with flowery phrases. It asserted that while the Arab Summit recognized the legitimacy of the Syrian people’s demands and called for an end to the bloodshed, it failed to acknowledge the responsibility of the brutal regime that has employed all means of killing and destruction to commit its crimes.
In a statement, the Committee emphasized that it is the Syrian people who hold the right to determine their own fate. It questioned why the conference would disregard the Syrian people’s right to seek external intervention in order to be rescued from the atrocities committed by the regime. The Committee raised comparisons, asking whether the ruling leadership in Iraq had allied with the United States of America to wage war against the former Iraqi regime, and whether there were no Arab countries utilizing international coalitions to liberate their lands from brutal aggression committed by fellow nations.
Consequently, the Commission expressed regret that the summit conference had not made resolute decisions to support the Syrian people in achieving their aspirations. It called for the revocation of the regime’s legitimacy, suspension of its membership in the League of Arab States, and the provision of various forms of assistance to empower the Syrian people in their quest for liberation. It warned that the silence of the summit only served to embolden Bashar Al-Assad to perpetrate further acts of killing and destruction, particularly as these decisions failed to condemn him and hold him accountable alongside the Syrian people.
In conclusion, the Committee urged all Arab governments cognizant of the severity of the situation in Syria to collaborate in forming an international military coalition to save the Syrian people and help them realize their aspirations in determining their own destiny. Additionally, the Committee called upon these governments to offer financial and military assistance to the Military Council and the Free Army.
