Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam announces his resignation from political and party life

Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam has officially declared his resignation from political and party engagements.

However, following his address at the 10th Congress of the ruling Baath Party held in Damascus yesterday evening, he clarified that his resignation does not imply his departure from the Baathist ideology.

Khaddam delivered a harsh critique of the political report presented during the conference, sparking a debate with Farouq al-Shara, the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
