The Syrian National Salvation Front urged the 19th Arab Summit to support the Syrian people and advocate for achieving peaceful democratic change, restoring Syria to its natural place in the Arab system.

The Front reiterated its support for Lebanese legitimacy and its backing of Fuad Siniora’s government in rebuilding Lebanon as an independent, democratic, and flourishing state. The Front, founded by the former Syrian Vice President-turned-dissident Abdul-Halim Khaddam and the General Observer of the Muslim Brotherhood in Syria, Ali Sadreddine Bayanouni, along with other opposition figures, stated in a message addressed to the summit yesterday that the official position represented by the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic does not reflect Syrian interests. It does not represent the reality of the Syrian people who suffer under the yoke of corruption and tyranny, grappling with the consequences of irresponsible policies that have isolated Syria from its Arab surroundings and subjected it to regional alliances conflicting with its national interests and Arab common interests.
