Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam described the results of the meeting of foreign ministers from neighboring countries of Iraq, held in Kuwait last Saturday, as “good.” In response to a question from the press about the meeting’s outcomes in Kuwait, Khaddam stated, “From the Syrian perspective, this matter doesn’t concern Syria alone because there are seven parties involved who discussed together and subsequently agreed on a joint statement, which we believe is a good statement.”

When asked about the existence of differences during the meeting on certain issues between Syria and Iran on one side and other parties on the other, Khaddam remarked, “In all meetings, there are multiple viewpoints… but ultimately, after discussions at the Kuwait meeting, common ground was reached, and that’s what happened at the meeting.”

The Syrian vice president spoke to reporters after receiving a delegation of Iraqi farmers during an official visit to Damascus today, during which the situation in Iraq was discussed from various angles, both in terms of security and politics.

Responding to a question about the current violence in Iraq, Khaddam expressed hope that all circumstances that could lead to such events, especially “the restoration of Iraq’s sovereignty and the strengthening of Iraq’s unity as a whole,” would disappear.
