Former Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam stated that the world is facing a fierce war in the Middle East, with one of its main components being the Russian-Iranian alliance. He mentioned that the situation in Syria is heading towards escalation, and the Syrian people remain steadfast in their revolution, aiming to overthrow the regime and hold its leaders and all those involved in murder crimes accountable.

Khaddam told the Saudi newspaper “Al-Yaum” that at first glance, listeners might conclude that Bashar al-Assad is shaking, similar to how Muammar Gaddafi shook shortly before his fall. However, after two weeks, Gaddafi fell, and it became clear that his threats were nothing more than emotional reactions not based on reality.

He added, saying: “After carefully reading the speech, I concluded the magnitude of the major conspiracy being executed in the region.” The former Syrian Vice President urged Arab governments and peoples to mobilize their efforts to support the Syrian people. This includes contacting major countries and urging them to make a decisive decision to use military force, similar to what happened in Libya. This should not only be to save the Syrian people but also to safeguard security and stability in the region.

Regarding the claim that Bashar al-Assad is seeking to ignite sectarian strife and establish a state in the coastal region, Khaddam said that this is true. He added that Bashar al-Assad stated, “I will not step down, and if cornered, I will ignite sectarian strife and go to the coast to establish a state there.” Khaddam described this direction from Bashar as reflecting the nature of the separation between him and the Syrian people. He expressed confidence that this project would fail because the national unity among Syrians is stronger than the aspirations of adventurous corrupt and tyrannical individuals.
