The Lebanese-Syrian border, which was closed last May in the wake of clashes between Lebanese troops and palestinian commander, will be respond seen as a result of an agreement signed at Chtoura in Lebanon on Friday (August 17).
After a forty minute meeting at Chtoura, which is near the Syrian border, the Lebanese Foreign Minister, Mr. Fuad Naffah, and his Syrian counterpart, Mr. Abdel-Halim Khaddam, signed an agreement which outlined the development of relations between the two countries. Mr. Khaddam told reporters that he would announce the exact date of the responding.
Syria closed the border on May 9th when Lebanese troops were engaged in fierce fighting with Palestinian commander, who had previously been receiving supplies and reinforcements from Syria. A considerable quantity of Lebanese exports go through Syria and these have been completely halted since the closure.
Mr. Khaddam told reporters that he would give the exact date of the reopening after his return to Damascus.
