Khaddam, following a meeting with Turkish President Necdet Sezer, stated, “There is extensive cooperation between the security services to enhance the security of both countries.” Syria and Turkey have taken a new step towards improving their relations and have signed security cooperation agreements aimed at combating terrorism and organized crime. They have committed to expanding their cooperation following discussions held between Syrian Interior Minister Mohammad Harba and his Turkish counterpart Saad Eddin Tantan in Ankara.

The visit of Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam to Turkey has resulted in an agreement to soon sign a joint declaration that aims to strengthen all aspects of the bilateral relationship. Khaddam remarked after his meeting with Turkish President Necdet Sezer that “there is extensive cooperation between the security agencies to serve the security of both countries,” emphasizing that they share “a common vision on all issues.”
