Syria today affirmed its support for the uprising in the occupied Palestinian territories and the implementation of Arab Summit decisions to sever ties with Israel. Palestinians, in turn, called for correcting Palestinian-Syrian relations as a necessity to support the uprising and Palestinian independence.

This came during a meeting between Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam and Naif Hawatmeh, the Secretary-General of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, based in Damascus. The meeting also included Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Naser Qadour and the Front’s Political Bureau member, Mahdi Suleiman.

Khaddam was quoted by the Front’s central media spokesman as confirming Syria’s support for the uprising aimed at achieving independence and the necessity of implementing Arab Summit decisions. He emphasized the need to support the Arab street and cancel all forms of relations with Israel. Hawatmeh reiterated that the uprising is ongoing, and the rivers of the people’s blood and national forces call for a new policy based on implementing international legitimacy decisions and international references, instead of American unilateralism.
