Former Syrian Vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam strongly criticized President Bashar al-Assad’s regime, expressing concern about his political maneuvers during the upcoming negotiations and the potential risk of toppling him without dismantling the entire regime. Khaddam also made a prediction that after Assad’s departure from power, a new Syrian army would be formed and would enter Lebanon to address the presence of Hezbollah.
Khaddam explained that recently, an agreement was reached between the United States and Russia to hold a conference in Geneva, aiming to find a negotiated solution to the ongoing crisis in Syria. However, he lamented that these two countries have failed to consider that any dialogue without equal footing between parallel forces would be ineffective. He emphasized that while Bashar al-Assad possesses all means of destruction and killing, the Syrian people have faith in God and the determination to achieve liberation, despite the imbalance in weaponry.
Regarding the formation of a government, Khaddam argued that if an agreement is reached between representatives of the opposition and the regime, such a government would provide Assad with further opportunities for destruction and killing. He believed that such a government would lack decision-making power, as any opposition request for the release of officials or officers from the regime would face resistance, rendering the government ineffective and stagnant.
Khaddam also criticized Hezbollah for its actions in entering Syrian territory and causing harm to the Syrian people, cautioning that the consequences of these actions would eventually catch up with them. He emphasized that the blood of Syrians should not be undervalued, and Hezbollah would face consequences once the Syrian people regain control of their own destiny.
