London – UPI – The “Temporary Leadership of the Arab Socialist Ba’ath Party in Syria” accused the authorities of prioritizing the army’s loyalty to the regime rather than the nation. It called on Ba’athists and youth to “struggle” for the liberation and salvation of Syria and the establishment of a state of justice and equality, emphasizing that it should be a democracy that guarantees freedoms.
The temporary leadership of the party, announced in June last year by the former Deputy President who defected, Abdelhalim Khaddam, declared its establishment in a new message addressed yesterday to Ba’athists and youth in Syria. It stated, “Have you not wondered how the Israeli aircraft reached Deir ez-Zor, bombed some sites, and the rumors about the arrival of an Israeli commando group to the region, and how the explosion occurred in the Muslimiya area on the outskirts of Aleppo, initially attributed to the heat, but later turned out to be the result of an airstrike? And how the Israeli aircraft continuously violated Syrian airspace?”
The opposition movement refused to blame the armed forces, holding “the ruling family, led by the Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Armed Forces, responsible for the situation of the armed forces since 1970 until today.” It continued, “President Bashar al-Assad called Comrade Abdelhalim Khaddam after the Israeli aircraft carried out an airstrike on the village of Ein al-Sahib near Damascus a few years ago, asking him if he heard about the aggression. He answered yes. President Assad asked if he had asked the army leadership how the Israeli aircraft reached Damascus. He replied emotionally that he asked them, and they hadn’t heard about the news.”
