Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam affirmed on Wednesday that Syria had sent messages to Israel through Turkey, inviting it to resume peace talks between the two countries.
Khaddam stated that the Turkish Prime Minister, Abdullah Gul, conveyed Syria’s desire to Israel to resume negotiations from where they had halted during the tenure of former Syrian President Hafez al-Assad.
Gul had confirmed in statements published by “Al Hayat” that he had conveyed messages and documents from Damascus to Israel regarding the resumption of negotiations. He added that he also conveyed copies of these messages to Washington.
