Abdel Halim Khaddam, the former Syrian vice president, stated that two years ago he had advocated for military intervention in Syria to protect its people. However, the opposition rejected his proposal and criticized him. In response, he questioned whether Syria was being controlled by foreign countries such as Iran and Russia.
During a phone call with Al Hayat TV from Paris, Khaddam expressed his belief that a military strike in Syria is possible and could lead to the downfall of the regime. He emphasized that Syria has become a battleground for regional actors. Recognizing the potential negative consequences, Russia decided to disengage from the conflict, although it still maintains sympathy for the Syrian regime. This demonstrates that a significant portion of the international community supports the Syrian people.
