Statement from the National Committee to Support the Syrian Revolution

Dear citizens who remain steadfast in the face of the most vicious crimes of the totalitarian regime, those who fight for freedom, justice, dignity, and the right to self-determination, the Syrian people are currently enduring a terrible plan implemented by the tyrant Bashar Al-Assad to alter the national and demographic structure of our nation through his acts of murder and destruction.

The reluctance on the Arab and international stage to enforce the Charters of the United Nations and Human Rights while the totalitarian Syrian regime continues to kill over 100 citizens daily, systematically destroying cities and villages and forcing their depopulation, reminds us of the calamity that befell the brotherly Palestinian people. It occurred during Arab and international gatherings facilitated by certain major countries and with the complicity of some Arab governments.

The failure of the Security Council to take decisive action against the deadly regime has caused concern and suspicion among Syrians. The call to Mr. Kofi Annan from the annals of history, assigning him to find a political solution to the bloody crisis in Syria, is extremely dangerous, and we had expected him to fail in fulfilling his duties.

Following his failure in the initial phase, I proposed the formation of an international group to find solutions to the Syrian crisis. A meeting was held between a group of foreign ministers in Geneva on June 30. After extensive discussions, the meeting unanimously approved the program presented by Mr. Kofi Annan. However, shortly after its announcement, this consensus was shattered when the United States Secretary of State declared that the agreement was prepared for implementation after Assad’s departure. The Russian Foreign Minister promptly responded, stating that the program does not include Bashar Al-Assad’s resignation from power. As a result, the regime persists, and those who committed genocide will not be held accountable. Mr. Kofi Annan confirmed in his press conference that the agreement does not include the name of Bashar Al-Assad and that it is the Syrians who decide his fate.

Upon thoroughly examining Mr. Kofi Annan’s proposal, we have decided to reject it for the following reasons:

First, the program grants Bashar Al-Assad a one-year opportunity to unite the Syrian people and suppress the revolution. This aligns with the goals of Russia and Iran.

Second, Mr. Kofi Annan failed to consider the nature of the brutal crimes committed by the regime and the deep divide that has emerged between the Syrian people and the murderous regime. This makes it impossible for Syrians to accept his program, and anyone who does so will be regarded as an enemy of the people and the homeland.

Third, in his media statement, Mr. Kofi Annan suggested that Syrians should agree on the program and its implementation. He seemed unaware of the ongoing conflict between the people who are striving for freedom, justice, and the right to self-determination, and the regime that employs all means to kill citizens, destroy their homes and livelihoods, and intensify their suffering. Dealing with this initiative is unacceptable. The problem lies in Mr. Kofi Annan viewing this conflict simply as a struggle between two tribes rather than a struggle between a brutal and bloody regime and an oppressed people.

Fourth, Mr. Kofi Annan calls for the formation of a government that includes ministers from both the regime and the opposition to engage in dialogue and work towards implementing his initiative. He failed to consider how opposition ministers could achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people in a situation where Bashar Al-Assad and his tyrannical regime control the security services, armed forces, and state institutions, all of which carry out his instructions for killing and destruction. The military establishment has become the regime’s criminal tool, and state institutions are controlled by regime agents and supporters.

The failure to address the issue of the regime’s deportation, including its leaders and elements responsible for planning and executing acts of killing and destruction, and the failure to hold Bashar Al-Assad accountable make it challenging to believe that such a government can be formed or that any action related to the interests of the people can be taken.

Dear citizens, the National Commission to Support the Revolution calls upon all Syrians to unite their ranks and positions, set aside their partisan and factional interests, and prioritize the greater cause, as their unity is the guarantee of victory.

Greetings to all militants in our beloved homeland.
